Charity Foundations
Until recently, the world’s largest charities were concentrated exclusively in the United States. According to 2013 data, the annual amount of funds given by American foundations reached $30 billion.
This was the case before the emergence and development of the European Foundation Center, which currently brings together more than 400 of Europe’s largest philanthropic foundations. The statistics collected by the Center in 2010 confirmed the effective results of the European philanthropists:
- more than 110 thousand charities work in Europe;
- Foundations employ about 1 million people;
- About 100 billion euros are allocated for philanthropy in Europe every year.
- Based on the sums invested in charity, we can name three largest foundations of the world according to the data of 2013. Among them: the Dutch Stichting INGKA Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Wellcome Trust of Great Britain.
The world’s most successful and well-known charities don’t just help – they shape a new worldview, influence world social processes, and solve other global issues. Support of the poor, development of science, assistance to animals – the range of social work of big foundations is quite wide.
Millionaires’ philanthropic foundations are organizations, where anyone in dire need of money can ask for financial assistance. Such structures have individual rules and requirements for recipients of money. Before applying, you should familiarize yourself with the organization’s range of activities, find out the conditions for applying, and formulate a clear request.
