Hewlett and Packard Foundation
This foundation confirms the fact that philanthropy abroad is considered the natural norm for people who have achieved financial success. Bill Hewlett and David Packard, the founders of the successful computer company Hewlett-Packard, together with their wives, created two separate foundations with different objectives.
In 1966, the Bill and Flora Hewlett Foundation was created, specializing in public and environmental issues. It has an annual investment of $300 million. The organization is mainly engaged in grantmaking, funding projects to protect the environment, public health, and improve education. Also, the Foundation cares for HIV-positive people in underdeveloped countries and promotes family planning programs among the poor in Africa and South Asia.
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation annually awards $250 million to improve the lives of children in undeveloped countries, and to support research, medical research and environmental protection projects.
William Hewlett, the founder of Hewlett-Packard, a company well known in our country, opened a charitable foundation with his wife. The main purpose of the foundation is to improve the environment and the health of people around the world. It also provides grants for research and community service in various areas:
- treatment of HIV-infected people;
- Developing technologies to clean up contaminants in the environment;
- Paying for the education of gifted children from poor families.
