Wellcome Trust

The assets of the Foundation amount to more than 22 billion dollars. The London-based charity was founded in 1936 in memory of Henry Welkom, the pharmaceutical magnate. The main purpose of the fund is to finance research activities aimed at protecting the lives of people and animals.

The Foundation has practically professionalized philanthropy in Europe, becoming the largest and most prestigious. The organization offers a large number of grants for scientific research and educational programs for medical professionals.

One of the world’s largest charitable foundations, the Wellcome Trust was founded in honor of the businessman and pharmacist Henry Welkom in London in 1936. The Foundation aims to protect the lives of animals and people, to finance targeted health and medical programs related to improving the quality and longevity of human life.

The Wellcome Trust is the world’s second-largest charity by budget and the most influential charity in England.

One of the Wellcome Trust’s most recent targeted philanthropic projects has been the development of a vaccine that is available to people in Third World countries in partnership with Merck, a well-known giant in the pharmaceutical industry. Basically, it is a new nonprofit drug research and development organization. The new company is based in India and is called MSD Wellcome Trust Hilleman Laboratories.

The main goal of the new project will be the modernization of existing and the development of innovative drugs for immunization against diseases that are widespread among the population of third-world countries.
